Founder & Head Designer

Charlotte Coote

“For 40 years I have had a profound relationship with interior design. I was born into it, lived alongside it as a child and I was taught it. Finally as an adult I chose it as a career. I have always liked the concept that good design could fuel your energy and enhance your life. I love the idea of making a space better, adapting it to enrich the lives of the people who intend to use them.”

With close to 25 years experience in the industry Charlotte Coote’s career has seen her commissioned for interior design work in Australia, Europe and the United States. Specialising in classic contemporary homes with an unmistakable elegance that transcends fleeting trends, a design aesthetic passed down by her late father, the legendary international interior designer John Coote, Charlotte is one of Australia’s most sought-after interior designers.

Having collaborated with her father on numerous large scale projects including boutique hotels, English & Irish houses and castles as well as private residences, Charlotte’s work showcases her five principles of design – timelessness, authenticity, lifestyle, scale, and quality. Revered for her sense of style and boldness, Charlotte mixes colours, textures and patterns to achieve rich and layered interiors.

With her established design studios in Prahran, Victoria and Noosa, Queensland she continues to build her portfolio as a leader in classic contemporary interior design with a breadth of design projects to her name. Approaching the 20 year celebration of Coote & Co, Charlotte is coveted member of the Australian interior design industry.

Charlotte is the author of two books 'Colour is Home (2022) and The Flower Room (2024), both published by Thames & Hudson. Her work has appeared in Jenny Rose-Innes’ book ‘Australian Designers at Home’, ‘Great Australian Homes’ by House & Garden, as well as being regularly published in Belle Magazine, Vogue Living, House & Garden and Mansion Magazine. Charlotte is the host of The Art of Living Well, an exclusive, high end masterclass at her home Marnanie, with international guest speakers such as India Hicks, Mark D. Sikes and Sophie Conran alongside Australian gardening great Paul Bangay. She has been a keynote speaker at Décor & Design, featured on prime-time television and Schumacher Live as well as producing installations for design exhibitions at the NGV.
