Built on architectural bones by Hecker Guthrie, this contemporary apartment in Camberwell, Victoria, was reimagined for a retired couple seeking comfort, elegance, and a true sense of home. While the apartment block itself was sleek and modern, the brief called for interiors that felt classic, timeless, personal, and lived-in. Spaces that would soften the modernity and reflect the couple’s character and history.

The colour palette blends pastel blues, olive greens, and warm neutrals, enriched with dark metal accents to bring depth and sophistication. Antique mirrored panels were introduced throughout to create visual interest, movement, and the illusion of greater scale, while artwork sourced for the clients further elevates the interiors. Classic botanical prints paired with bold, structural textiles create a chic balance between tradition and modernity. Anchoring the living room is a custom iron and marble coffee table, handmade by a local artisan, its weight and craftsmanship ground the space with permanence and artistry.

One of the most transformative elements of the project was the reimagining of an unused bedroom into a secondary sitting room. Designed as a quiet space for reading, retreat, or intimate conversation, the room centres around the Bennison upholstered sofa, perfectly nestled in our custom designed joinery. Colefax & Fowler grasscloth envelops the walls, creating an intimate, cocoon-like atmosphere that contrasts beautifully with the openness of the main living areas.

The finished apartment is elegant yet deeply personal, with a timeless charm that transcends trends. It captures the essence of its owners, rooted in their history, layered with their stories, and refined through design. From the moment they moved in, the clients felt truly at home.
